Frequently Asked Questions about Personal Training
Here are just a few questions that you may have, if this section doesnt cover the questions you want to ask then feel free to give me a call to discuss.
How long do Personal Training sessions last?
Jigsaw Personal Training sessions typically last for one hour.
How long will it take me to get fit?
Three part answer to this question, firstly we would need to establish what being fit means to you. This is called the principle of specificity, i.e. a top 100m sprinter is undoubtedly fit but ask them to run a marathon and they will likely struggle. Therefore we will work together to identify what your personal goals and objectives are and then develop a bespoke training program to deliver on those goals. The second part of the answer is that as with everything in life, it will take time and effort to achieve the goals and objectives that have been decided upon. Equally everyone is different and therefore there is no set timeline that can be provided for this question. However with the right time frame and direction, it will happen and sooner rather than later. Thirdly, with the right approach getting fit will become less a concern, you will come to see fitness, not as a goal to be reached and then set aside. You cant bank fitness and therefore the right approach is about making fitness an ongoing part of your life so that you are constantly maintaining and improving your health and fitness.
Am I too old to have a Personal Trainer?
Not at all, in fact a different way of asking the same question could be am I too inactive to start training? and again the answer would be no. To ensure it is safe for you to commence training we will go through a PAR- Q (physical activity readiness questionnaire) and the consultation will go over your current levels of activity and your objectives. Then a tailored plan will be designed for you so irrespective of your current levels of activity and/or age, you are never too old to learn new things and promote greater levels of health. Of course certain factors may need to be taken into account before embarking on your plan but we ensure our plans are tailored, realistic and progressive.
Is there an initial consultation?
Yes, and its absolutely free! The consultation is a great chance to get a feel for the Personal Trainer that you will be working with, what to expect from them, what will be required from you to achieve your goals and ask any questions you may have. As mentioned above the consultation will also include a PAR-Q to review your readiness for physical activity and also to identify your goals and objectives.
Where are you based and where would the Personal Training sessions take place?
As a mobile trainer the location of the sessions are entirely subject to the clients choice and preference. They can be - at home, - within your health club that you may already be a member of (where permitted), - within a local park that may be close to your home, - around the area of where you work, (to be able to train within your lunch hour if needed), - in your office where space permits I bring all the necessary equipment with me so wherever we agree to hold a session, you simply need to turn up and train.
I am way too unfit to work with a Personal Trainer arent I?
See the answer to the question, Am I too Old to train? again the answer is no. A good Personal Trainer will assess your current levels of fitness and then set appropriate exercises and levels of intensity so that you gain increased levels of fitness and achieve your goals quicker and much safer than if you tried to do this on your own from scratch.
Do I really need a Personal Trainer?

Good question and only you can really answer that one. However to help you decide, ask yourself the following. Are you disciplined, motivated, creative and educated on how to achieve your chosen goals safely and effectively? If so then there is a fair likelihood that you may not require personal training. If still undecided then take a look at the questions below. If the answer to any of the following is no then it could be advisable to use a PT. If still in doubt then call to arrange your free consultation.

Do I have all the information I need to start training for my goals?
Am I motivated to start and maintain training?
Am I aware of what is realistic and achievable for me to accomplish within a given time frame?
Am I exercising at present, and if not have I participated in any structured form of exercise?
Do I enjoy exercise? Do I know how to exercise to achieve my goals?
Am I disciplined enough to achieve my health and wellbeing goals without external knowledge or support?
Do I have an action plan in place as a source of direction for me to achieve my goals?

How frequently do I need to see my Personal trainer?
This will vary from person to person. It could be as frequent as every day to as infrequent as once a month. It will be for you to decide taking into account factors such as work/ family commitments, time available, finances, levels of motivation, discipline, if goals have deadlines and general life circumstances to name but a few.
Do I need to do my own training outside of Personal Training Hours?
In most cases, the short answer to this will be yes. However the amount and type will vary considerably depending on factors such as your mtoivation, opportunity, curent fitness levels and your goals. This can all be discussed during your consultation.\par If you only want one session a month with your PT and you do no other exercise then benefits will be minimal, however if you're already highly active then occasional sessions may be beneficial enought to provide a specialised workout which compliments your existing training. \par These are obviously 2 opposite ends of the scale, I would expect most people to require regular personal training of at least 1-2 sessions a week to kickstart their programme with some supplemetary activity added as progress is made. Again your PT will be able to offer advice on additional activity that compliments your programme.
Do I need to buy any special clothing or equipment before I start?
No you dont, any normal workout gear which allows comfortable ease of movement will do: sweatshirts, T-shirts, shorts, tracksuit bottoms, leggings, vests, trainers and socks. Ideally choose clothes that you can wear in layers, as once you warm up throughout a session you may want to remove a layer. Ultimately it comes down to what you feel comfortable in both physically and psychologically. One tip, if you often suffer from blisters then investing in a decent pair of dual layer socks is advisable. I can personally recommend Wrightsocks probably available from all good stockists but certainly available from Runners Need. As regards equipment, you do not need anything for your personal training sessions, all will be provided by your Jigsaw Personal Trainer. However if you are wanting to do specific training outside of your sessions then we would be happy to answer any questions you may have on equipment purchases.
What is Jigsaw PTs Cancellation Policy?
The Jigsaw cancellation policy is simply that if a scheduled session is cancelled within 24 hours of its start time, then clients will incur 100% cancellation fee for the session in question. If the session is cancelled between 24 and 48hrs then it will be 50% of the fee. If canceled with 48 hours notice or more then this is fine. If the Personal Trainer should for whatever reason cancel the clients session on the day, then the session will be rebooked for the client at their nearest convenience at no extra cost and a complimentary session will be given by way of apology.
Can I buy Individual sessions or do I have to buy block bookings or packages?
Full details of the different Jigsaw packages can be seen on the specific pages for each of the services. We offer you the flexibility to book anything from individual sessions to block bookings
Will I get nutritional / dietary advice?
Yes however only if you want to. Whilst it is true that good nutrition and exercise are of vital importance and hugely interlinked, it may be that you simply want to concentrate on learning new exercises. Your personal trainer will not force-feed you their views (pardon the pun) on nutrition. However if you are interested then we will be more than happy to share our knowledge and provide advice.
Do I get a fitness evaluation and how will my progress be monitored?
Yes. Appropriate fitness testing will take place in the first session. This will then be used as a point of reference to access your progress. The regularity of testing can be agreed to suit you but I would strongly suggest that you allow a minimum of 4 weeks elapsed time between tests.
Can I buy sessions as a gift for someone?
Absolutely. Please contact for further details.
